The Why and What of the UN Sustainable Development Goals
The world has an agreed plan, facilitated by the United Nations, but created by all countries. It’s called the Sustainable Development Goals, and is part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development launched in 2016. We live in an interconnected world whether we know or like it, or not. This plan is everybody’s responsibility, not just Prime Ministers, CEOs or Mayors, however big or small, and in every town, village and city.
The UN SDGs are 17 interconnected global goals established as a call to action for all countries, businesses, and individuals to work together to address social, economic, and environmental issues that affect humanity and the planet. These 17 interconnected goals aim to create a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous world by 2030. This is Partnering for Purpose CIC’s acknowledgement of this plan, and how we intend to play our part primarily by focusing on the power of collaboration and partnerships to accelerate impact.

Advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
At Partnering for Purpose CIC, we recognise the critical importance of these goals and have aligned our mission with four key SDGs that resonate deeply with our work. We are committed to driving positive social impact and sustainability by aligning our work with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs provide a universal framework to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and peace, with the ultimate aim of creating a more just, sustainable, and prosperous world by 2030. We are also fortunate to be based in Liverpool and are proud to support 2030Hub, the world’s first UN Local2030 Hub, created to make cities and businesses stronger, and they are a certified B Corp.
Our mission is to empower socially trading organisations (STOs), charities, and purpose-led businesses in the Liverpool City Region, West Lancashire, and West Cheshire by offering support services that enhance their efficiency, effectiveness, and social value. Through our efforts, we aim to contribute to achieving key SDGs that are closely aligned with our goals of fostering inclusive communities, building sustainable cities, reducing inequalities, and encouraging partnerships for change.
At Partnering for Purpose CIC, we focus on four key SDGs that reflect our core mission and values:
Our Commitment to Key SDGs
SDG 10: Reduced Inequality
Overview:
SDG 10 aims to reduce inequality within and among countries by ensuring equal opportunity and reducing disparities of income, access to resources, and social inclusion for marginalised groups.
Our Approach:
At Partnering for Purpose CIC, we work to reduce inequality by supporting small and micro socially trading organisations that serve underrepresented and marginalised communities. Through financial, governance, and operational support, we help these organisations become more resilient and effective, empowering them to bridge social and economic divides. By improving their sustainability, these organisations are better able to serve their communities and contribute to more inclusive and equitable societies.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Overview:
SDG 11 focuses on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable by improving urban planning, reducing environmental impact, and providing access to essential services for all.
Our Approach:
Through our partnerships with socially trading organisations and purpose-led SMEs, we support initiatives that contribute to the development of sustainable communities. We work with organisations that address housing, environmental sustainability, and social cohesion, ensuring that the communities they serve are better equipped to face challenges such as urbanisation, climate change, and social inequality. By promoting resilience and sustainability, we help cities and communities become safer and more livable for all.

SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
Overview:
SDG 16 aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions.
Our Approach:
Partnering for Purpose CIC is committed to enhancing the governance and transparency of socially trading organisations, helping them implement strong governance frameworks and ethical practices. By providing training in financial management and good governance, we ensure these organisations operate with accountability and fairness, fostering greater trust within the communities they serve. In this way, we contribute to peaceful and inclusive institutions that support human welfare and social justice.

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Overview:
SDG 17 recognises that achieving the SDGs requires strong partnerships between governments, the private sector, and civil society. This goal aims to enhance collaboration across sectors to mobilise resources and share knowledge.
Our Approach:
Collaboration is at the heart of Partnering for Purpose CIC. We actively seek to build strong partnerships with socially trading organisations, purpose-led corporate sponsors, educational institutions, and local government agencies. These partnerships allow us to leverage resources, expertise, and knowledge to create greater social impact. By fostering an environment of shared learning and collective action, we are committed to driving the success of socially trading organisations, which, in turn, contribute to the broader 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
